The Hapa Japan Festival “celebrates mixed race and mixed roots Japanese people and culture.” This hybrid film/animation piece was released to promote the 2017 event at the Japanese American National Museum and the USC (University of Southern California) campus in Los Angeles. It also supports HapaJapan.com, “the world’s largest online database, network, and community of Hapa Japanese people.”

In addition to this creative work, I was a panelist at the conference portion of the 2013 festival for a session entitled “A Roundtable Discussion of Community-Based Organizations: History and Prospects” as the founder of Loving Day. I also serve on the Hapa Japan advisory board.

I provided creative direction, co-wrote, designed, and animated this piece. Live action footage was shot by Megumi Nishikura, who also co-wrote the script. Though the graphic text is bilingual in English and Japanese, I directed separate voice-over artists for each language.
